Rosalie, Brisbane

Case Study: The Rosalie Plinth House

There is a lovely quality of life that filters down from the upper level. Very rarely does the air conditioning or heating need to be turned on. The way in which cooling is most successful is when you're not using air conditioning and have that high humidity is to have that movement of air. Matt Kennedy, Owner Arcke Architecture

Problem

The original brief, provided by the Queensland-based clients was to create a family-style home that created a seamless experience for indoor and outdoor living. Originally a battered but beautiful workers cottage, Arcke Architecture redesigned the quintessential Queenslander with a brand-new rear living pavilion that featured relax glamour styling throughout. Since the 2011 floods in Queensland, builidng to this area is subject to tight controls in relation to flooding which meant the design needed to be creative, embracing the surrounding natural characteristics to provide a lovely sense of a family home.

Solution

In response, Arcke Architecture redesigned the quintessential Queenslander with a brand-new rear living pavilion that featured relax glamour styling throughout. The matte Black finish of the Haiku fans were able to fit naturally in with the house's palette. The different finish and mounting variations of the Haiku fan make for a versatile cooling solution, providing multiple design opportunities for architects and specifiers.

Results

Two Haiku fans in the living and outdoor area allows the family to filter between the two spaces effortless without sacrificing comfort. Trying to capture the natural ventilation created by the openness of the space, Arcke Architecture enhanced this movement of air with Big Ass Fans, and reducing the reliance on a/c during summer.
