Case Study: Jack Henry & Associates

The difference is night and day with the addition of the Powerfoil X2.0 fans. In the winter, we’re pushing warm air back down to the floor within a matter of minutes instead of an hour. And when it’s hot out, I don’t hear a word from the guys about how warm it is. You can definitely feel the difference. Chris Ridings, Maintenance Manager

Problem

Employees at Jack Henry & Associates, Inc., rely on their in-house aviation department for all work-related travel. This successful southwest Missouri-based outfit struggled with insufficient airflow, slow heaters, and even problems with pests coming into the hangars when employees opened the bay doors for ventilation. Radiant heaters mounted near the ceiling would take nearly an hour to heat the space in the winter, and birds completely ignored fake owls and snakes placed in the rafters in an attempt to deter flying pests.

Solution

Maintenance Manager Chris Ridings installed Big Ass Fans®—an 18-ft (5.5-m) and a 20-ft (6.1-m) Powerfoil®X2.0—in both hangars. The fans made an immediate difference. In the winter, the fans pushed warm air from the radiant heaters down, so the heat made it to the floor in just a couple minutes, rather than an hour. On an 85°F (29°C) day in the summer, the breeze from the fans meant technicians could work comfortably despite the heat. The fans even solved the bird problem—fake owls and snakes weren’t enough to scare birds away, but the massive fans did the trick.
