When SeifertMurphy renovated the public spaces of the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point, the Dallas, Texas, firm was confronted by mismatched fans spread throughout the facility. The firm planned an upgrade that would fit with the resort’s British Colonial style and updated design elements.
Now, when guests drive into the hotel’s porte cochére, they’re greeted by two 10-ft (3-m), Chestnut Brown Isis® fans by Big Ass Fans®. “Most fans,” said Pat Murphy, AIA, SeifertMurphy, “are 52-in (1.3-m) or 60-in (1.5-m), and those smaller fans just do not look right in a big lobby space or restaurant, so getting a bigger-scale fan was important to us. But they have to have the right look for the space. Isis is a clean-line fan. Aesthetically, it works.” Murphy also cited the nearly ever-present heat and humidity of Bonita Springs in south Florida as a motivating factor in installing Big Ass Fans, noting that air movement is vital to keeping resort guests cool, particularly on still days.
