Case Study: Malibu Jack’s

They turn slowly and silently but move a massive amount of air. I would recommend them to anybody with a large building where climate control is important. Steve Hatton, Co-Owner

Problem

Malibu Jack’s, an indoor family fun center in Lexington, Kentucky, fills up on weekends with as many as 2,000 people who come to play miniature golf, ride go-karts, celebrate birthdays and generally party hearty. The center occupies 40,000-sq-ft (3,700-sq-m), with a ceiling that is close to 40 feet (12-m) at its peak with only a thin layer of insulation below the metal roof. From previous experience at a large sports facility, the owners knew they would need some way to keep air circulating. “The last thing we want is for people to leave because they’re hot,” owner Steve Hatton said.

Solution

The owners decided that three Powerfoil®X2.0 fans from Big Ass Fans® would provide the air movement they needed. One fan was installed over the miniature golf course, one over the central desk and one above the go-kart track. “They work great. We use them year-round,” Hatton said. The fans work with the A/C in summer to keep temperatures even throughout the space and push the heat down from the ceiling in the winter. And an added benefit: The fan above the miniature golf course rustles the leaves on the faux palm trees just like an ocean breeze.
